A Tour of Hermanus
Pick up from your chosen accommodation: 08h00
Return: Approx. 17h00
Here is an overview of what is offered on this amazing tour:
The exquisite seaside town of Hermanus situated approximately 2 scenic hours from the centre of Cape Town has numerous exciting attractions to offer. During the season, August to November, Hermanus hosts the annual migration of the Southern Right Whale to its shores. The name is derived from being the ‘right whale’ to hunt in the southern hemisphere back in the day. Fortunately these mammals are now a protected species and come here to calve. This area makes it one of very few towns in the world where one can view whales frolicking in the bay from shore vantage points.
Boat- based whale watching may also be a once-in-a-lifetime option you might wish to consider offered by strictly regulated operators.
Should you choose to consider this tour out of whale viewing season you will still be rewarded with incredible scenery, local art, curios, wine, coastal vistas and penguins. A photographers dream. Take a leisurely stroll along the boardwalk located on the sea front or explore the many shops and stalls selling curios and art works.
Hemel and Aarde Valley, translated as Heaven and Earth, is the breath-taking wine route found in this area. These wine estates offer some of the most sophisticated wines in the world and are available for tasting and purchase.
At the second estate, we pause for a leisurely lunch. Savour delectable cuisine from local produce whilst drinking in an incredible view and wine, of course! Picturesque and peaceful is what make this stunning area so memorable.
After lunch we head off back to the city along the awesome coastal road. Ideal whale spotting opportunities abound. Have your cameras at the ready. We stop for a short visit at the Stoney Point Penguin Colony for an acquaintance with these endangered birds after which we head for home.
An experience that will live with you forever, to share with family and friends.
