Here's an overview of what's offered on this amazing tour:
We start this tour once leaving your hotel, with a visit to a family-run winery, Villiera. This particular estate specialises in Cap-Classique sparkling wines as well as a variety of other excellent wine varietals. Set under large oak trees, one may enjoy tastings or even pairings with nougat in this very relaxed environment. The technique of Sabrage, or the releasing of a cork from a bottle with the blunt side of a blade is demonstrated. Good fun and excellent wines. We head into the heart of the famous town of Stellenbosch to visit the Village Museum. This complex of 4 houses reflects the type of accommodation, lifestyle and architecture dating back to the period of 1680 to 1830. The oldest, fully restored town house in South Africa is located here. With a knowledgeable guide, one is able to relive this interesting period of time. Dorp Street has one of the longest rows of historical buildings in any major town in South Africa. This oak lined street oozes olde- world charm. Cape Dutch gabled architecture found in this town dates back to the 1800's. A fine example of Dutch architecture can be found at the next Wine Estate we will visit, Lanzerac. Dating back to 1692 when the land was first purchased and renamed Lanzerac in 1914, this U-shaped house with its sophisticated architecture and neoclassical main gable dates back to 1830. Now a luxury Hotel, Lanzerac is internationally recognised for its fine wines where we will stop for a tasting. Lunch thereafter will be enjoyed at the Postcard Cafe aptly named for its stunning lawns, mountain backdrop and lake. The wine tasting room is uniquely located in a wooden building on the lake. The huge Koi fish in the lake are also fascinating to watch. After lunch we visit the Heritage Garden for lovers of Horticulture. Many of the trees and plants found in the garden have many stories to tell such as an off- spring of an Apple tree from Isaac Newton and a Willow originating from Napoleon's grave. After a relaxed amble around the gardens we head of back to Cape Town and the end of a wonderful experience.
